What is a Guardian ad Litem?

In the State of Maine, all children and incapacitated adults involved in probate (Title 18-C), family matter (Title 19-A), and protective custody (Title 22) cases are afforded an opportunity to be represented by a neutral advocate.  A guardian ad litem is a legal professional who is tasked to investigate a case, report back to the court, and advocate for the best interest of the child or incapacitated adult.

Attorney Theriault (FKA Carson) is here to provide compassionate advocacy for Maine's most vulnerable members.

Firm and Attorney Reviews

"While working with Attorney Carson, I was kept informed the entire time. Her knowledge and our options of our situation surpassed my expectations. She is a family person and her demeanor shows this in her work as well. I highly recommend her to anyone needing her services."

"Our family had the pleasure of meeting Danylle Carson during the adoption process of our two oldest children. She was our son and daughter’s Guardian Ad Litem during their multiple years in the foster care system. Danylle’s dedication and passion for her work is remarkable. She was the only constant in their case from start to finish, and consistently showed that she was present to provide a voice for our children. Caseworkers, foster homes, and counselors changed, but Danylle was always there. Unfortunately, just weeks before our adoption date, she was in a terrible accident that took her out of work. Despite her own struggles, Danylle made sure that the transition to our new GAL was seamless. Considering the consistent and vital role she had in our children’s lives, we extended a personal invitation to Danylle for adoption day. We were not surprised when we saw her show up to the court room. That’s just who Danylle Carson is: consistent, dedicated, and passionate for the children and families she works with. She has been a shining light and beacon of hope in the world of foster care and adoption. We feel so lucky that she has been a part of our “Forever Family” journey."

During the entire legal process Danylle maintained great communication with me that not only eased the anxiety associated with dealing in the courts but also created a great sense of care and urgency. I would highly recommended her to anyone seeking legal assistance now and in the future!"
